Ubambiswano Report June 2009
We are exited to have added a new school to our list. Chief Luthuli School, established in Jan 2009 has a group of enthusiastic and dedicated staff members. Not only did they request a visit by the mobile library but begged for a group of reading Gogos too.

Their tenacity has been rewarded – their school being the venue for the third Reading Gogo programme.
At some schools we experienced a disappointing slump in the number of books borrowed in the first term. I arranged consultations with the relevant schools where we attempted to find the reasons for poor turn out of teachers. Gratefully, we have seen an improvement in the second term.

We have begun to have more and more pupils at Daveyton Intermediate come to the warehouse during break times looking for books. In order to encourage this growing interest we have set up a system where all the pupils from grades 4-7 can visit the library and select books for themselves during class time. This is one of the few schools in the district fortunate enough to have access to this facility!

Most of the new books received from Exclusive Books and Shuter & Shooter are now catalogued and on the shelves and make for a welcome variety of choice.

Sponsorship
The promised donation of pens and markers was made by the MD of Pilot Pens on the 8th May. We intend to use these to hand out with certificates to top readers at year end presentations where we hope to be joined by some of the representatives of Pilot Pens.

We are still in contact with and await a response from the Exclusive Trust for funding for our Reading Teacher.
The proposal sent to Covidien also awaits a response.
The refurbishment of the warehouse has not yet happened but all necessary quotes are in place.

On a personal note I need to inform this committee of my intention to leave at this year end. My husband has resigned his job which means we will most likely be relocating.
